We were recently delighted to learn that two students in our department won NSF graduate fellowships and one received honorable mentions. Student winners included Katherine Sharp (Brodsky lab) and Crystal Lara-Santos (Carlson lab). The honorable mention winner was Trapper Hobble (Turcotte lab). The National Science Foundation GRPs fully support and allow students to focus on their research projects for 3 full years.

Two-term Mellon Fellowships are awarded to doctoral students of exceptional promise and ability across the disciplines in the Dietrich School, and recent awardees include Morgan Kok (Brodsky lab), Faith Rovenholt (Stephonson lab), and Tasniem Fetian (Arndt lab). Congratulations on the receipt of these awards!

Dina Condeluci is the recipient of the 2022 Orosz Award for Excellence in Emerging Leadership among our staff!

In the May 26^th issue of Cell, Nick et al. discuss the use of two mycobacteriophage isolates to treat a Cystic Fibrosis patient with a severe bacterial infection. As a result of the treatment, the patient improved sufficiently that they became eligible for a life-saving lung transplant.

Five members of our graduate student body were recently awarded prestigious and highly competitive one-year Mellon predoctoral fellowships for the 2022-2023 academic year.
