I am interested in the physical and genomic characterization of bacteriophages, specifically phage-host interactions and dynamics. I work with Mycobacterium, Gordonia, CorynebacteriumBacillus sp., and marine Synechococcus as host organisms for recovering new isolates from all parts of the globe. I am also interested in using bacteriophage analysis as a vehicle for authentic research with undergraduates both in and out of the classroom.

Dr. Pope received her BS in Biology from MIT in 2000, did her graduate work in the laboratory of Prof. Jonathan King at MIT and received a PhD in 2005 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology/Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Joint Program in Biological Oceanography. She did post-doctoral work with Dr. Roger Hendrix and Dr. Graham Hatfull at the University of Pittsburgh and joined the faculty in 2012.
