Tousimis-Lauffer Lecture Series - Dr. Jorge Galán to Speak

We are delighted to announce that the annual Tousimis-Lauffer Distinguished Lecture will be given by Professor Jorge Galán of Yale University School of Medicine.

Monday April 15, 2013, 4:15 pm, 169 Crawford Hall
Refreshments will begin at 4:00 followed by the 4:15 lecture.

"Type III secretion machines: bacterial devices for protein delivery into mammalian cells"

The Galán Laboratory conducts research on molecular mechanisms of bacterial pathogenesis within the Section of Microbial Pathogenesis at the Yale University School of Medicine. The primarily focus is on the mechanisms by which the bacterial pathogens Salmonella and Campylobacter interact with host cells to cause disease. Insights gained from characterizing the mechanism of action and the crystal structures of bacterial effector molecules have led the Galán Laboratory to advance the concept of structural and functional mimicry in bacterial virulence. Mimicry is achieved in some cases through virulence factors that are direct homologs of host proteins.
