Instructors Sought for New HHMI Supported Courses

Our department is actively seeking candidates for two new positions:

  1. A Visiting Non-Tenure Stream Laboratory Instructional Developer for our new and expanding research-focused introductory lab courses.  The developer will use the SEA-PHAGES model and work with research faculty in the Department of Biological Sciences to develop, design, test, and implement new introductory laboratory courses based on the research of the faculty member.  The developer will teach at least four sections during the academic year and develop tools for the expansion of the number of sections of the course, including training of new instructors and coordinating evaluation of students and program assessment.  The developer will collate and study data from the course and evaluate findings with the research faculty member.  Administrative duties will involve working with the undergraduate research program of the HHMI grant.  A Ph.D. is required.  The position is nine-months.
  2. A Visiting Non-Tenure Stream faculty laboratory instructor to teach and prepare materials for a new and expanding series of research-focused introductory lab courses.  Teaching will include four lab sections during the academic year.  Support duties will include overseeing preparation of media and reagents, assisting with training and supervision of student media prep assistants, evaluating lab equipment and supplies prior to purchase, overseeing repair of existing equipment, helping to provide coverage of our extended hours, troubleshooting new lab procedures, and assisting with instructional components of new lab activities.  The instructor will help with data collection and organization for the courses and assessment of the educational components of the course.  Administrative duties will involve working with the undergraduate research program of the HHMI grant.  A Ph.D. or Master’s degree in biology is recommended.
