Financial Details

Do I have to apply for financial aid?

No. All graduate students, both domestic and international, are supported by University Fellowship in their first year and Research Assistantships, Teaching Assistantships or external fellowships in subsequent years.

I am not an international student, yet I tried to apply online but it only gave me the option to pay the fee by check or by credit, and you say elsewhere that there is no application fee for US residents?

We apologize for this problem. Our Department charges no application fee for applicants residing in the United States. Simply check the box that says "Payment by Check", but do not send any money!

Do I pay tuition?

No, you are not responsible for the tuition.

Will I receive health benefits?

Yes, you will receive excellent health care coverage.

How much is the stipend?

As of August 2012, the level of net support for our first-year students is $26,100 a year, and students typically receive a 3-5% cost of living increase each year. Compared to other cities like Boston, New York, and Baltimore, Pittsburgh housing and food costs are inexpensive and public transit is free for all University of Pittsburgh students.
